Profile: I first started my Horsforth career in year 6 after seeing an advertisement in my school encouraging youngsters to join Horsforth. I immediately took to bowling from my first training session, already being a master on the playground. My first season was a learning curve, as I had to master the art of fielding and change my batting stance and technique completely. The second season in the Under 13s after was to be one of my proudest. I had been made captain, and was in good form both with bat and ball. I had taken seventeen wickets and had some strong partnerships in the pair’s games. I was named player of the season at the presentation for all my hard work and contribution. My team had not been the most successful, but the Friday night we beat an extremely shocked Guiseley. I had taken a junior best of 5-14, and doing so prevented the scum from winning the junior league. Again it was time to move up a level as I turned 14. The under 15’s had looked a challenge when asked to play the year before. I had started with a bad string of scores and found myself as a lower order batsmen and 2nd change bowler. However mid-season I was to surprise both the coach and team as I managed to put together a good set of innings together, and to take wickets as well. I then became an opening batter and 1st change bowler against Otley, which I scored 45 and Hall Park, scoring a very memorable maiden half century. At the awards presentation I was to pick up the most improved player award, another to add to the trophy shelf. This year has been quite an up and down year. Being named captain again, I have been in good form with the ball for the 15’s and 17’s, being the most economical bowler in both age groups. This year I have developed a natural in swing to my bowling, a quality second to none to the road end bowlers. However, I had a poor season with the bat, picking up 193 runs for the fifteens and just 70 for the 17’s, problems I soon to tackle with the awesome coach yellow. My first year at senior cricket has been, for me personally, a successful one so far. I’ve managed to take several vital wickets when called upon, but of course there is still improvement to be made. I also have my brother to worry about, as I receive terrible banter about how he is better than me as cricketer. All I have to say is, if he is, then where are the wickets???
